Our Legacy and the Evolution of Giving at South University

For more than 125 years, South University has been a pillar of accessible, career-focused higher education, founded on the belief that learning should be personal, purposeful, and transformative. South University has remained steadfast in its commitment to supporting students in achieving their academic and professional goals, particularly those who seek flexible, real-world pathways to success.
 
What began as a single campus has evolved into a dynamic, multi-campus institution serving thousands of students nationwide in nursing, pharmacy, healthcare, business, psychology, technology, and more. Through decades of growth and transformation, one constant has remained: a deep belief in the power of education to improve lives and uplift communities.

In honor of this legacy and with a bold vision for the future, South University launched the South University Foundation, a strategic and sustainable platform for alumni, friends, partners, and community members to give back and pay it forward.

The Foundation was created to extend South University’s impact beyond the classroom by:

• Enhancing campus environments that foster student engagement and success
• Building pathways for alumni involvement and lifelong connection

Introducing Stinger the Stingray, South University's Mascot

With over 6,000 votes from the University community of staff, faculty, students, and alumni, Stinger the Stingray was selected as the South University mascot in June 2022. Prior to commencement in June 2022, the likeness of Stinger the Stingray was developed for broad use within the University.  

At the 2024 commencement in Savannah, the physical Stinger mascot appeared for the first time at the Alumni Reunion and Commencement Ceremonies.
